High expectations typically come with winning a second straight Stanley Cup and this is not exception for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2017-18. With any level of early season success the discussion at the water coolers in October will likely be whether the franchise can three-peat as NHL champions. 2017-18 Odds to Win Stanley Cup: Can Pens three-peat?

Pittsburgh was voted as the No. 1 team in NHL.com‘s preseason Super 16 power rankings by the website’s 10 member committee who participated in the process.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were elected as the club that would be chasing the Penguins. The Lightning will see the return of center Steven Stamkos, who missed the last 65 games of 2016-17 with a knee injury, but laced his skates up in four preseason games and looked fit in those events.

The Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators and Edmonton Oilers round out the Super 16 top-5 at NHL.com.

It isn’t easy to repeat as champions in any professional sports league but the World’s Largest Race and Sportsbook have the Pittsburgh Penguins atop their NHL Futures as “most likely” to become three-peat champs in 2018.
