The injury riddled New York Giants travel two time zones this weekend to square off against the Denver Broncos. The kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET at Sports Authority Field. 2017 NFL Games of the Year: Giants at Broncos.
Flashback to May 30th, 2017 when WagerTalk columnist Jay Richards published the WestGate SuperBook 2017 NFL Games of the Year initial releases and you will find the Broncos a field goal (minus-3) favorite over the visiting Giants. The latest WestGate NFL Week 6 Line Updates, four-plus months later, have Denver as minus-12 point home chalk against New York.
New York Giants (0-5 SU, 2-3 ATS, 3-2 O/U) vs. Denver Broncos (3-1 SU, 2-1-1 ATS, 3-1 O/U)
Spread: Denver -12; Over/Under: 40
For the record the Giants, who suffered a 27-22 loss to the Chargers last Sunday, are one of three NFL teams that have yet to win a game. Last week was Eli Manning and the G-Men’s best chance to register their first win of the 2017 season but injuries derailed their conquest. Of the Giants five losses this season three have come by five points or fewer.
The Giants square off against arguably the best defense in the league and do so without a running game or their two top wide receivers. New York ranks 11th in the league in passing offense (248.6 yards per game) and 30th in rushing (77.8 yards). New York is 29th in the league in scoring offense averaging 16 points a game and 24th in scoring defense allowing 24 points per contest. Also, the Giants offensive line has given up 13 sacks. Hence the large move in this WestGate 2017 NFL Games of the Year event.
In Sunday’s loss to San Diego four wide receivers left the game due to injury. Odell Beckham Jr was placed on injured reserve and Brandon Marshall will undergo surgery on the ankle he injured in the loss to the Bolts.
The Giants’ leading rusher, Orleans Darkwa, has gained 122 yards in five games. And no other New York running back has reached the 100-yard mark on the season.
In conclusion injuries have resulted in the team’s worst start since 1976 when it lost its first nine games. The rest of the 2017 campaign supports the chance that the Giants may not win a game for the remainder of the year.
