With Sam Bradford‘s knee not responding in a positive fashion after practices this past week the Minnesota Vikings (OFF) announced that backup signal-caller Case Keenum would start at quarterback against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers resulting in this WagerTalk 2017 NFL Week #4 Early Lines: Lions at Vikings off the board update. Keenum, who received more practice this past week with the first unit, responded by throwing for a career-high 369 yards and three touchdowns in an impressive 34-17 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Bradford missed his second straight game with a knee injury and like last week most Vegas and Offshore sportsbooks have the Vikings off the board in their early lines.
The local Vikings team coverage in Minneapolis area, TwinsCities.com, reported that “the brother of Vikings general manager Rick Spielman is the Fox analyst for Sunday’s game, but that doesn’t mean he has any inside information on Sam Bradford.”
“He’s not going to tell me anything,” former NFL linebacker Chris Spielman told TwinCities.com this past Thursday about the quarterback’s availability.
The report went on to state that “At least Vikings coach Zimmer revealed a little. Zimmer said Bradford, who sat out last week’s 26-9 loss at Pittsburgh with a left knee injury, was doing “better.” He said Bradford’s chances to play Sunday against the Buccaneers at U.S. Bank Stadium had increased from Wednesday.”
“Your responsibility is to play to the best of your ability no matter who the quarterback is,’’ Zimmer said.
The Vikings offense look sluggish, slow and out of sync in the team’s Week #2 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Ketchup Bottle and most NFL coaches and players agree that when there is a question mark surrounding a clubs quarterback game day status that it is a “distraction” and not only shortens the playbook but typically results in poor play on Sunday afternoons.
The team is going to take the same approach to accessing Bradford’s availability for Sunday’s divisional contest against the team they are tied with atop the NFC North standings, the Detroit Lions.
