Who will be the big favorite to fall? The South Point sportsbook in Las Vegas has released their 2018 MLB division odds, and half of the divisions have heavy favorites. You’re going to pay a premium of -500 or greater if you want to bet on Washington in the NL East, Cleveland in the AL Central, or Houston in the AL West.

You’re still going to lay a bigger price, but instead of those three teams, I think the Dodgers -250 in the AL West is one of the better bets on the board. If you look at Westgate’s updated win totals from Feb. 26, Los Angeles has a projected win total (95.5) that’s 11 games better than the next team in their division, Arizona (84.5). If you like Arizona’s chances to topple the Dodgers, it might be best to wait until May to fire.

Look at Arizona’s schedule over the first seven weeks of the season. The Diamondbacks play the Dodgers 12 times before May 9. There’s a streak between the end of April and beginning of May where Arizona will play 16-straight games against 2017 playoff teams, including the Dodgers, Nationals, and Astros. Take a look at where Arizona is at after the May 11-13 series with Washington. Their next opponents are Milwaukee, the Mets, Oakland, Cincinnati, and Miami. The D-Backs have 14 games in June with Miami and Pittsburgh. If you can get a good price on an Arizona future, that mid-May window might be the time to do it.
