A sign of things to come? The rest of the PGA Tour hopes not. Dustin Johnson crushed the field at last week’s Sentry Tournament of Champions from Kapalua, earning an eight-shot victory over Jon Rahm. Johnson isn’t in this week’s Sony Open field from Waialae in Honolulu, but there are plenty of other big names in attendance. Jordan Spieth is the +500 favorite at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, followed by Justin Thomas (+700) and Marc Leishman (+1500).

Thomas won last year’s event by seven shots over Justin Rose after shooting a 59 in Round 1. Taking a quick spin through the matchups, I think there’s a little value on Charles Howell III over Jason Dufner. Dating back to 2012, Howell III has finished T2, T3, T8, T26, T13, and T8 at the Sony Open. Dufner has missed the cut twice at this tournament during that time, and only finished top-10 once. So I think that’s one to keep an eye on as you do some homework for this tournament.
