What a weekend of European soccer! In Spain, Ronaldo received a five-game suspension for shoving an official in Sunday’s match against Barcelona. They will meet again on Wednesday in the second leg of the Spanish SuperCopa. In England, Chelsea finished its match against Burnley with only nine men and lost 3-2. Liverpool gave up a tying stoppage time goal to Watford and Arsenal-Leicester City may have already clinched Match of the Year. On Tuesday and Wednesday, focus shifts to qualifying rounds for the UEFA Champions League.

Tuesday’s marquee match is England’s Liverpool vs. Germany’s Hoffenheim. Liverpool is a small +130 favorite, but is expected to be without Daniel Sturridge, Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana, and Nathaniel Clyne (courtesy Sky Sports). Hoffenheim has not been beaten at home in its last 17 Bundesliga matches (11 wins, six draws). Opponents have failed to score in four of Hoffenheim’s last five home matches. Wednesday’s marquee match is Spain’s Sevilla vs. Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir. Basaksehir has not been beaten in regulation since April 1 (10 wins, six draws). Sevilla just completed an international friendlies tour with some of the biggest clubs in Europe: AS Roma (2-1 win), Everton (2-2 draw), and Arsenal (2-1 win).
