Team USA will try to satisfy their fans with a win, when they take on Colombia on Saturday for the third-place consolation match. It seems that coach Klinsmann will field his best possible squad in an attempt to capture their best position in the team’s history. Colombia might be missing their two most important players, as Rodriguez and Bacca are doubtful.
Seattle Sounders will host the New York City FC at CenturyLink field in Seattle, on Saturday, June 25th. Both teams are desperate for a win, as Seattle are looking to turn their season around and hopefully make the playoffs, while NYCFC are currently 3rd in the Eastern Conference and are looking to make the playoffs this season, after they just missed them in their inaugural season.
Colombia had a difficult task when they met Peru at the quarter-finals, but managed to prevail in the penalty shoot-out, and now they must face Chile in the road to the final. Chile’s performance was totally unexpected, as they completely annihilated Mexico with a dominant 7-0. They will however be missing Arturo Vidal as he is suspended due to yellow card accumulation, and this might tip the scales in Colombia’s favor.
Italy are the uncontested winners of Group E, as they ensured their qualification after their second win, and not only that, but also the first place in the Group. Coach Antonio Conte is expected to rest many of his starters. On the other hand, the Irish erased their good showing at the premiere against Sweden when they fell 3-0 to Belgium. Italy are at the top of Group E with 6 points, Belgium have 3, while Sweden and Ireland each have 1 point. Ireland are now called to overcome Italy in their final game in order to qualify to the round of 16.
Croatia truly committed suicide against Czech Republic, but the draw in that game won’t cost the Croatians their qualification. On the other hand, Spain finally played some quality soccer, their best outing so far in the EURO, by humiliating the Turks and will now look for another win so they can finish at the top of the group.
Every bit of positive impression that Ukraine gave us in the premiere against Spain went down the drain after their defeat to Northern Ireland which practically sealed Ukraine’s disqualification. On the other hand, Poland stood strong against Germany and will now look for a win against Ukraine and with as many goals as possible. The situation in Group C is as follows : Germany and Poland have 4 points each, but Germany has better goal difference by one goal. Northern Ireland have 3 points and Ukraine have none.
The minimum goal for USA was their presence in the semi-finals, and since fate brought them against the biggest favorites, Argentina, their work is cut out for them. To make matters worse, 3 players are unavailable for team USA due to suspension. Argentina are coming into this match in the back of a 4-1 easy win against Venezuela, and they are hoping they can win this tournament for the first time after 23 years and 3 failed finals.
