The Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks 2nd Round Eastern Conference Playoff series is underway. The first quarter is in the books and the visiting Celtics hold a nine-point lead over the host Milwaukee Bucks in a low scoring first period. The pair of east foes both swept their first-round series. Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals was the first of Sunday’s 2nd Round Association postseason action.
Milwaukee Bucks vs Boston Celtics Preview
The basketball portals that litter the internet have headlined this east series as Giannis Antetokounmpo vs. Kyrie Irving. While the Bucks are uber-dependent on Giannis the same couldn’t be further from the truth in relation to Kyrie and the Celtics.
Both stars have a unique ability to create their own shot. In addition they are difficult to guard in a straight up man-to-man scheme. But most important to the underdog Celts in offering more minutes to Semi Ojeleye – who has the size and physical presence to keep the “Greek Freak” from attacking the rim – is how Ojeleye fits into the offensive game-plan. Ojeleye has had some experience defending Antetokounmpo. And when asked in the pre-series presser earlier this week head coach Brad Stevens was asked if Ojeleye could see some extra or above his average in minutes during this series. “He could,” Stevens stated to the media. However, he refused to indulge the press corps with an explanation of how different Ojeleye would and could be directed in this semifinal affair.
The lone certainty when it comes to Stevens’ defensive scheme is that the Celtics’ first and second rotations will in fact focus on Antetokounmpo. That focus, however, will be in the form of one of a trio of players who will play off Giannis at arm’s length and force the below average jump shooter to take more shots from the perimeter. This as apposed to uncontested layups and put-backs around the rim.
