Odds to Win 2019 Big Dance
The media and the coaches went to work on Monday and in the end sent the Gonzaga Bulldogs to the top of the polls for the second time this season. Timing is college basketball everything that it is in life period. Thus the station that the Zags currently sit at in both polls could be where they finish when the regular season concludes. The school’s schedule for the remainder of the league slate with the games they have yet to play will find them as significant favorites to earn a win.
Top of the College Basketball Rankings
The Zags spent two weeks at No. 1 after beating the Blue Devils to win the Maui Invitational in November. Following the pair of weeks atop the poll Mark Few’s team were demoted following a December loss to SEC Tennessee. If the first loss wasn’t enough to move them down the in the rankings the defeat at the hands of the Volunteers was followed by a second straight loss to North Carolina
Since those back-to-back final score failures Gonzaga (27-2, 14-0 West Coast Conference) hasn’t lost since.
Gonzaga is currently riding an 18-game winning streak and they play their final two regular-season games on the road at Pacific on Thursday and Saint Mary’s on Saturday in a pair of second and final league tilts that found the Zags facing contest against teams they defeated the first time around by a combined 79 points.
College Basketball Futures Notes
Virginia (24-2) slid up one spot on the AP chart moving to No. 2. The Blue Devils (24-3) fell from atop the AP Poll perch from No. 1 to third. Duke lost at home to ACC rival North Carolina in a game that saw freshman star Zion Williamson break a shoe and sprain his right knee.
The Coaches Poll has Duke at No. 2 and Virginia in the third spot.
The Tar Heels have won 10 of 11 and are off two conference wins versus ranked foes, Duke and Florida State, earning victories in both contests by double-digit margins.
Kansas started the year at No. 1 and at 8-1 odds to win the 2019 college basketball national championship. They are currently in the No. 15 spot in the AP Poll and are 40-1 in the latest Las Vegas SuperBook’s College Basketball Futures.
