Raw emotions and drama rarely escape college basketball’s national championship tournament. And the 2019 version is no exception. In Michigan State’s scuffle in their first round victory over surprise entry Bradley it was Spartans head coach Tom Izzo that couldn’t escape the “heat of the moment” minute. Izzo’s old school coaching style became an issue in Thursday’s 76-65 win over the Braves. William Hill 2nd Round Big Dance Most Popular Bets.

Izzo streaming on Twitter

The video and sound clips of Izzo spitting his venom at Henry went semi-viral Thursday. The criticism of Izzo followed him to his Friday night presser with the national media. According to ESPN “for what he believed to be the player’s less than full effort in retreating on defense, Izzo approached Henry on the floor during a timeout and yelled at him so intensely that guard Cassius Winston had to step in to separate the two.”

Former Spartans star Draymond Green took to Twitter on Friday to share his thoughts on why his former coach needed to be restrained.

In Izzo’s defense this isn’t his best team but it might be his best coaching job as the Spartans bench boss. The lack of depth and go-to scorer makes this year’s Michigan State squad over-seeded. The underlying peripheral and metrics of Izzo’s troupe are pedestrian at best. And the team’s matchup against league rival Minnesota will take a near perfect game from his five-and-one-half player rotation.

Spartans 1st Round Scuffle

For those that didn’t have the opportunity to watch the MSU and Bradley first-round matchup don’t be fooled by Michigan State’s double-digit win. The Spartans trailed at halftime and had a one-possession lead with just over three minutes left in the game.

A less than 100 percent Nick Ward is the lone reserve that played more than seven minutes in the win over Bradley on Thursday.
