Summer Boxing Update: Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG

Hey guys, don’t forget about this one! On June 21, Matt Holt from CG Technology said that their sportsbooks have handled 15x more bets on McGregor-Mayweather than September’s Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG fight. At the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, Gennady Golovkin is currently a -150 favorite over the Mexican superstar.

Golovkin is 37-0 with 33 of those victories coming by knockout. His “Big Drama Show” style had previously been unstoppable, but GGG ran into a difficult test against Daniel Jacobs in March. Golovkin won by unanimous decision, but there’s more than a handful of boxing analysts that suggested it was worthy of a draw. That was GGG’s first fight that went to the judges’ scorecards since June 2008. Canelo is 49-1-1 with that lone defeat coming at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr.. He holds victories over Julio Caesar Chavez Jr., Amir Khan, Miguel Cotto, and Shane Mosley. Alvarez and Golovkin will be fighting for the WBC World, WBA Super World, IBF World, and IBO World middleweight titles. The total rounds for the fight has been set at 9.5, with a -220 juice on the over.

Canelo Alvarez vs. GGG will take place on Saturday, September 16 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Odds and props, courtesy of the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook
