2018 CFL Season Preview and Grey Cup Odds (East Division)

The Argonauts will look to improve on their .500 record in the regular-season but at the end of the day, they won the Grey cup and that is all that matters. They will have a battle with both Ottawa and Hamilton to have a chance to repeat as Grey Cup champions,  never mind who will come out of the West. We believe without a doubt, the West will get the crossover again this year. The offense picked up QB James Franklin to back up QB Ricky Ray and the fourth ranked D of last year will be solid again with LB Bear Woods running the show.  2018 CFL Season Preview and Grey Cup Odds (East Division).

Ottawa Red Blacks

The key for Ottawa will be keeping QB Trevor Harris healthy for the year and they are having trouble with this as Harris was injured in the first preseason game. It looks like Harris will start the first game of the year and they have an excellent receiving core with Brad Sinopoli and Greg Ellingson both 1000-yard receivers last year. On the defensive side of the ball, Ottawa got much better adding DB Rico Murray and DB Louchiez Purifoy to a defense that ranked third in the CFL last year. It will be fun to be an Ottawa fan this year.

Last season:  8-9 record lost in the East semi final 31-20 to Saskatchewan

Key Departures:   DL Zack Evans   DB Adam Berger

Key Pickups: DB Rico Murray    DL Cameron Walker   DB Louchiez Purifoy

Odds on winning Grey Cup plus 950

Season Win Total 8 1/2

Hamilton Tiger Cats

All the preseason hype for the CFL this year is because of QB Johnny Manziel. He will backup Hamilton’s number one quarterback Jeremiah Masoli but with HC June Jones running the show for the Tiger Cats you know there will be all kinds of gadget plays coming on what will be an explosive offense this year.  On defense, it will be up to new DC Jerry Glanville to improve on what was one of the worst units last year in the CFL. We believe that Glanville and the rest of his defensive coaches will be able to do just that.

Last Season:  6-12 record missed playoffs

Key Departures:  LB Mitchell Barnett     DB Dominique Ellis

Key Pickups: QB Johnny Manziel

Odds on winning Grey Cup plus 550

Season Win Total 9 1/2

Montreal Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes who were the worst team in the CFL last year are hoping that new HC Mike Sherman can breathe some life into a team that had only three wins last year. They have done a total rebuild on a defense that was the worst in the CFL last year. They signed Joe Burnett and Tommie Campbell as free agents from Calgary and they now have DBs Dominique Ellis from Hamilton and Mitchell White from Toronto. However, their biggest move on the defense could be signing LB Henoc Muamba. He has been back and forth from the CFL to the NFL most of his career and will help solidify the new defense. Unfortunately, for Montreal the offense will be trouble.

The Alouettes scored a league worst 314 points last year and with Darian Durant only playing one season and now retired, it looks like they will have quarterback issues all year. They have six quarterbacks in camp at the time of this writing with Drew Willy looking to grab number one. When you do not have offense in the CFL, you are in for another long season.

Last Season:  3-15 record missed playoffs

Key Departures: QB Darian Durant   DB Dominique Termansen

Key Pickups: DB Dominique EllisDB Joe BurnettDB Tommie Campbell DB Mitchell White
DL Jamaal Westerman

Odds on winning Grey Cup plus 1400

Season Win Total 5 1/2
