Big Ten Tournament Preview: Northwestern vs. Minnesota

Minnesota is one of the best sub-.500 teams in recent memory. The Golden Gophers are in the top-45 of the country in both offensive and defensive efficiency…yet have a record of 14-16 heading into the Big Ten Tournament. Can the Gophers make a surprise run in Indianapolis? The WagerTalk TV crew offers their Northwestern vs. Minnesota preview and prediction.

Date/Time: 03-11-2020, 18:00 EDT
Opening Spread: Minnesota -8
Opening Total: 136

The Gophers beat Northwestern by nine and 26 in their two regular season meetings. In those two contests, Minnesota’s Daniel Oturu averaged 20.5 points and 14 rebounds. The Wildcats don’t have anyone that can match up with him. The Gophers have one notable blemish on their resume, and it comes at the free throw line. The Gophers are No. 292 in free throw rate, so they don’t get to the foul line very often. And when they do, they don’t shoot them very well (68.8-percent). That could be a tough pill to swallow when looking to back a sizable favorite. Another small silver lining for anyone looking to back Northwestern: The Wildcats actually shot the ball better away from home this season.
