College Basketball Free Pick: Red Raiders at Bears

Texas Tech visits Waco to square off against league foe Baylor. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at the Ferrell Center. College Basketball Free Pick: Red Raiders at Bears.

The No #6 Red Raiders (+1, 133) are riding a seven-game winning streak. They sit at the top of the Big 12 standings one-game ahead of the Kansas Jayhawks.

Texas Tech has won its past four games by nearly 12 points per game but it is their defensive that fuels the Raiders fire. A balanced offense led by senior guard Keenan Evans in combination with the league’s best defense (62.7 points) makes the squad the team to beat in conference play as the regular season close approaches.

Evans leads the Red Raiders in scoring (18.7 ppg) and has assisted the young backcourt’s growth. Fresh guards Jarrett Culver and Zhaire Smith combine to average over 20-points per game in league affairs and defensively Tech is as technically sound as any school in the country.

Senior guard Manu Lecomte is the player that fuels the Baylor Bears. When staked with the task of having to play at both ends of the court Lecomte has had his share of struggles. Today is one of those matchups as Lecomte will have the partial task of containing Evans. Senior forward Jo Lual-Acuil Jr has recorded 11 double-doubles this season but he isn’t capable of carrying an offense that is, as a whole, dysfunctional.

Baylor’s talent level is more represented by the club’s 2-8 start in Big 12 play. The Bears coaching staff isn’t at the same level as that of Texas Tech. The Raiders are head-and-shoulders better on the defensive end of the floor. And Texas Tech is 9-1 when Evans scores at least 20 points this season. The Bears don’t have a shutdown backcourt player that can contain Evans for 40-minutes.

The Bears are dismal in close games. Baylor is 1-4 in contests decided by three points or fewer this season against conference foes.

Free College Basketball Free Pick is a play on the Red Raiders in a near pick’em game.
