William Hill Most Popular Thursday 1st Round Bets
News out of the ACC and the first round of March Madness doesn’t favor the Syracuse Orange. At least not after today’s round-of-64 versus Bi 12 Baylor Bears. Syracuse’s Frank Howard, the senior guard who registered a 28-point performance against Duke in the ACC tournament, has been suspended indefinitely. The reason for the inactive status is what the school’s athletic department called “a violation of athletic department policy.”
The Syracuse powers-that-are wouldn’t take a call and didn’t provide details about what led to the suspension. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim wouldn’t speak to the incident in his Wednesday media session after the team’s walk-through.
Howard was not with the team in preparation for today’s meet versus No. 9-seeded Baylor in Salt Lake City.
Boeheim told the media on Thursday morning “We practiced with the inclination that this [the absence of Howard] would be the case.”
Howard averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals in 29 games this season. The squad is still solid in the backcourt with veteran and tourney savvy Tyus Battle.
Battle is expected to be the primary point in place of Howard tonight.
Battle, who appeared in the post-walk-through presser said players did not find out about Howard’s suspension until the school released its statement roughly 10 minutes before the team was scheduled to be on the floor for practice.
