Big 12 Conference Tournament Preview and Pick

The Big 12 Conference Tournament Final Four will be settled today beginning with an early 12:30 a.m. ET tip between Iowa State and Baylor. The second of the four Thursday events pits league champion Wildcats of Kansas State against the Horned Frogs of Texas Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET for the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Big 12 Conference Tournament Preview and Pick.

Kansas State Wildcats (-3, 125)

Savvy senior point guard Barry Brown Jr. will be asked to add points to his score sheet in today’s second round action. Typically it is Dean Wade and Kamau Stokes that the team’s scorers but the ‘Cats will be without their most dangerous offensive threat in Wade who continues to struggle staying healthy due to a foot injury.

Stokes (19 points, six assists), Brown (15, four assists, three steals) and Wade (11 points, seven rebounds) combined for 45 points, 14 assists and five steals in Saturday’s 68-53 regular season finale versus Oklahoma.

The No. 1 seeded ‘Cats won’t have the services of Wade who is questionable to play in this weekend’s league tourney. In addition Stokes comes into today’s contest having missed practice this week to migraines. The squad does return sixth man Cartier Diarra who hasn’t played this month to a hand injury.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs

The inconsistent Frogs don’t have any one go-to player to depend on offensively. Sophomore forward Kouat Noi earned the team’s highest league honors this season. Noi was voted in as All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection. Noi closed the regular season as the conference’s ninth leading scorer (14.1 points per game).

Freshman center Kevin Samuel is the team’s most reliable scoring option in the paint. Samuel averaged 15.2 points per game as a frosh. Alex Robinson directs the offense. The point guard averaged nearly 7 assists per game.

Free Pick

The smallish handicap in this contest is based solely on the absence of D-Wade and possible Stokes. Points would have been at a premium if both Wade and Stokes were one hundred percent. Without one or both the game still plays out as a defensive and deliberate affair.

Free Pick is a play UNDER the TOTAL of 125 points
