Date/Time/TV: Tues. Feb.26, 7:00 PM EST, ESPN
Spread: Duke Blue Devils -4.5 (-110)
Williamson went down to injury in last week’s home upset loss to North Carolina. The team adjusted
to life without their top threat for Saturday’s road tilt with Syracuse, walking off the court with a 10-
point victory. For the season, the Blue Devils are 24-3 (16-11 ATS).
The Hokies enter tonight’s game with a mark of 21-6 (13-12-1 ATS). The team was also in action on
Saturday, picking up a 67-59 road victory over Notre Dame. Virginia Tech is 10-5 in conference play
thus far, while Duke checks in at 12-2.
Duke Blue Devils
The mixed-bag of results from the past week led to Duke falling from #1 to #3 in the latest AP Top
25 poll. The team is 9-1 (6-4 ATS) over its last 10 games. Last Tuesday’s 16-point loss to the Tar
Heels was the program’s first defeat since January 14. The Blue Devils are a perfect 7-0 (5-2 ATS) in
road games this season.
Team totals stand at 7-18-2 to date with the Under coming in for three of the last four. In the absence
of Williamson, R.J. Barrett is the top threat with averages of 23.3 ppg and 7.5 boards. Cam Reddish
chips in with 14.0 ppg, while Tre Jones contributes 8.6 ppg and 5.3 dimes.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Saturday’s victory over the Fighting Irish was a bounce back performance from last Monday’s 6-
point home defeat to Virginia. The Hokies are 6-4 (4-5 ATS) for their last 10 outings. The team has
defended the home court well thus far with a mark of 12-2 (6-7-1 ATS).
Team totals have been Over for three of the last four and check in at 13-12-1 to date. Nickeil
Alexander-Walker is the top option for Virginia Tech. He’s averaging 16.5 ppg and 3.5 dimes. Kerry
Blackshear Jr. is next up with averages of 14.6 ppg and 7.2 boards.
Duke vs. Virginia Tech Prediction
This will be the first meeting of the season for these two squads. The Hokies have won two of the last
three versus the Blue Devils, but Duke holds and 8-2 edge over the last 10. Totals have leaned
heavily towards the Under over that span at 2-8.
The loss of Williamson definitely stings, but as Duke was able to demonstrate on Saturday in front of
a packed house in Syracuse, this loaded squad has more than enough talent to adapt. Tonight’s game
is no cake walk, but we like Duke to prevail and cover.
