A meeting of Big 12 powerhouses serves as the featured matchup for tonight’s college basketball
slate. The #23 Kansas State Wildcats hit the road to take on the #12 Kansas Jayhawks. This is a
rematch from earlier this month when Kansas State picked up a 7-point home win.
Date/Time/TV: Mon. Feb.25, 9:00 PM EST, ESPN
Spread: Kansas Jayhawks -3.5 (-110)
The Wildcats have won their last two games in convincing fashion. On Saturday, the team picked up
a 39-point home victory over Oklahoma State, which came on the heels of a 14-point road decision
over West Virginia. For the season, Kansas State is 21-6 (16-11 ATS).
The Jayhawks were on the road versus Texas Tech on Saturday, and they were taken to the
woodshed to the tune of 91-62. That defeat snapped a string of three straight victories. Kansas is 20-7
(12-15 ATS) on the year.
Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State is atop the Big 12 standings with a conference record of 11-3. They’re one-game in
front of Texas Tech, and two games in front of Kansas. The team has been playing well with a mark
of 8-2 (8-2 ATS) over the last 10. On the road this season, the Wildcats are 6-4 (7-3 ATS).
Team totals stand at 12-15 for the year with the Over being the correct call for six of the last seven.
Barry Brown Jr. is the top option on offense. He’s averaging 15.7 ppg and 4.2 rpg. Dean Wade is
next up with 13.1 ppg and 6.3 boards.
Kansas has hit a rough patch and gone just 5-5 (4-6 ATS) over the last 10. During that time, they
have squared off with four ranked squads, going 2-2. The Jayhawks are a perfect 14-0 (7-7 ATS) in
home games this season.
The Over has come in for five of the last six games. Totals check in at 16-10-1 to date. Dedric
Lawson leads the way with 19.0 ppg and 10.1 rpg. Second leading scorer Lagerald Vick has been out
since earlier this month for personal reasons. Devon Dotson contributes 12.0 ppg and 3.7 boards.
Kansas State vs. Kansas Prediction
These two clubs met earlier this month on Kansas State’s home court. The Wildcats were 2.5-point
home favorites, and they covered easily in a 74-67 victory. Kansas holds a dominant 8-2 edge over
the last 10 meetings. Totals are 5-5 over that span.
Dating back to 2017, these teams have squared off six times. Kansas holds two double-digit victories
over that time frame. Three of the remaining four over that stretch have been decided by three points
or less. The spread is tight tonight with the Jayhawks installed as 3.5-point home favorites.
While the visitors have been playing the better basketball of late, we like the hosts to defend the
home court and cover to make the Big 12 race even tighter.
