Spread: Virginia Tech Hokies -5 (-110)
The Cardinals take the floor for tonight’s game fresh off of a 10-point road loss to North Carolina on
Saturday. The Tar Heels returned the favor for their road loss at Louisville earlier this season. On the
year, the Cardinals are 16-6 (12-8-2 ATS).
The Hokies were also in action on Saturday, picking up a convincing 23-pont road victory over NC State.
Virginia Tech held the Wolf Pack to just 24 points for the entire game. The team is 18-3 (12-8-1 ATS)
Louisville’s loss on Saturday snapped a six-game winning streak, a span which included a pair of
victories over ranked teams. The club is 7-3 (6-4 ATS) over its last 10, and holds a mark of 4-2 (5-1
ATS) on the road this year.
All three of the club’s last three games have hit the Under, and the team trends that way on the year
at 10-12 on totals. Jordan Nwora is the top option on offense with 17.9 ppg and 7.7 boards. Dwayne
Sutton and Christen Cunningham are contributing 10.6 and 10.4 ppg respectively.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Virginia Tech cruised through the month of January with just two losses, both of which came on the
road versus ranked teams. The club is 8-2 (5-5 ATS) over the last 10, and a perfect 11-0 (6-4-1 ATS)
The Hokies have checked in at the Under in two of the last three and stand at 9-10-1 on totals.
Nickeil Alexander-Walker leads the way on offense with 17.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg. Ahmed Hill adds 13.4
ppg, while Kerry Blackshear Jr. contributes 12.7 ppg. The latter is probable with an ankle issue.
Louisville vs. Virginia Tech Prediction
This will be the first meeting of the season for these two teams. Louisville is a perfect 5-0 over the
last five, covering the last two. All five of those contests have been decided by eight points or less,
and the Cardinals have picked up two road victories over that stretch.
While that’s a positive sign for Louisville, they’ll be hitting the road to face off with a conference
rival which has been playing really well this season. Saturday’s road victory over NC State was a
shellacking, while Louisville suffered a tough road loss. We like the Hokies to pick up the win and
cover on their home court.
