College Basketball Preview and Free Pick: Minnesota vs. Maryland

There are a number of appealing matchups on this evening’s college basketball docket, but perhaps
the best of the bunch will see a pair of Big Ten foes tip off in tonight’s featured game on FS1. The
Minnesota Golden Gophers hit the road to take on the Maryland Terrapins with both squads looking
to state their case to the bracket makers before the regular season comes to a close.

Date/Time/TV: Fri. March 8, 7:00 PM EST, FS1

Spread: Maryland Terrapins -7 (-110)

Total: 135

Game Preview

The Golden Gophers enter tonight’s game with a conference record of 9-10 and an overall mark of
19-11 (15-15 ATS). The team is six games behind the conference leaders in the Big Ten and three
games back of Maryland. Minnesota is riding a two-game winning streak, including Tuesday’s big 4-
point home win over Purdue.

The Terrapins have dropped their last two contests. The team was last in action on Sunday at home
versus Michigan, falling by a score of 69-62. Maryland is 12-7 in conference play, three games
behind the leaders of the pack. For the season as a whole, the Terrapins have a record of 21-9 (15-14-
1 ATS).

Minnesota Golden Gophers

Minnesota suffered through a four-game winless run early last month, but they have turned things
around since that point. The team is 4-6 (6-4 ATS) over its last 10 outings. The Golden Gophers have
been poor on the road this season with a mark of just 2-8 (5-5 ATS).

Team totals have been Under for three of the last five and stand at 13-16-1 on the year. Amir Coffey
leads the way on offense for Minnesota with averages of 15.8 ppg and 3.1 apg. Jordan Murphy adds
in 14.5 ppg and 11.7 boards, while Daniel Oturu contributes 11.0 ppg.

Maryland Terrapins

Maryland has a six- and a seven-game winning streak on its season-long resume, but the team has
been just average of late while going 5-5 (5-5 ATS) over the last 10. The club has fared well at home
this season with a record of 14-3 (7-9-1 ATS) to date.

Totals have been Over for the last three but land in the middle for the year at 15-15. Anthony Cowan
Jr. is the biggest force for Maryland. He averages 15.7 ppg and 4.3 dimes. Bruno Fernando is next up
with 14.1 ppg and 10.5 boards, while Jalen Smith adds in 11.2 ppg.

Minnesota vs. Maryland Prediction

These two programs hooked up back in January on Minnesota’s home floor. The Terrapins walked
out with an 82-67 victory as 2-point underdogs. Maryland has won four of the last six over the
Golden Gophers. Totals are 3-3 over that span.

Maryland is installed as a 7-point home favorite for tonight’s game, and that’s a little too rich for our
blood. The hosts have been average of late, while the visitors seem to have a bit of a pep in their step.
We’ll take Minnesota plus the points.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Maryland Terrapins Pick: Minnesota Golden Gophers +7 (-110)
