Game Preview

The Red Storm advanced to tonight’s quarterfinal matchup with a 82-74 victory over DePaul
yesterday. St. John’s covered as 5.5-point home favorites in what amounted to home game for them.
On the year, the team is 21-11 (14-17-1 ATS) and 8-10 in Big East play.

The Golden Eagles were in good shape to take down the conference in the regular season, but the
team fell off a cliff and dropped its final four games. That left them with a record of 12-6 in
conference, one game back of 1st place Villanova. Overall, Marquette is 23-8 (18-13 ATS).

St. John’s Red Storm

St. John’s went 3-1 versus conference heavyweights Villanova and Marquette during the regular
season, but they also closed out the year with three straight losses versus other conference foes. For
the last 10 games, the team is just 5-5 (5-5 ATS).

Totals have been Over for four straight and stand at 16-14-1 for the year. Shamorie Ponds tops the
team with 19.7 ppg and 5.3 apg. He dropped 18 points on DePaul yesterday. Mustapha Heron
contributes 15.1 ppg, while LJ Figueroa adds in 14.6 ppg.

Marquette Golden Eagles

After pulling out a 1-point home win over Villanova on February 9, Marquette was in control of the
conference. The team would win its next three in a row before inexplicably dropping four straight to
close out the season. Over the last 10 games, the Golden Eagles are 7-3 (5-5 ATS).

Totals have been Under for four of the last five and skew that way on the season at 11-17-2. Markus
Howard is the biggest force for Marquette. He’s averaging 25.0 ppg and 4.0 dimes. Sam Hauser
chips in with 14.8 ppg and 7.1 boards.

St. John’s vs. Marquette Prediction

These two programs hooked up twice during the regular season. For the first game, St. John’s picked
up an 89-69 home win as 2-point favorites. The rematch was on Marquette’s home floor. The Red
Storm pulled out a 1-point win as 6.5-point underdogs.

For the last 10 meetings, the teams are tied 5-5. Totals are 5-4-1 over that span. As the 2.5-point
spread indicates, these two clubs are evenly matched. St. John’s gets the nod on offense, while
Marquette is the stronger defensive squad.

In the end, the MSG floor is a big edge for the Red Storm. We’re expecting a close contest which
goes back and forth with St. John’s picking up the slight upset.
