March Madness Expert Picks: Oregon vs. Virginia

NCAA Tournament South Region on Thursday night. The final game to tip of the evening will see
the #12 seed Oregon Ducks face the #1 seed Virginia Cavaliers.

Spread: Virginia Cavaliers -8 (-110)
The Ducks advanced to the Sweet Sixteen with a 73-54 victory over UC Irvine in round two on
Saturday, a game for which they were favored by 4.5 points. On the year, Oregon checks in at 25-12
The Cavaliers also played their second-round game on Saturday. They defeated Oklahoma by a score
of 63-51 in a game they were favored by 10.5-points. Overall, Virginia brings a record of 31-3 (25-
10 ATS) to the table.
Oregon played Wisconsin in the first-round on Friday. While they were 1.5-point underdogs at tip-
off, they managed to walk away with a 72-54 win. Previously, the team defeated Washington by 20
points in the Pac-12 final. Over the last 10, the Ducks are a perfect 10-0 (10-0 ATS).
On totals, Oregon checks in at 12-24-1 for the year to date and at 2-2-1 for the last five. In the victory
over UC Irvine, Payton Pritchard dropped 18 points, while Louis King contributed 16. They’re
averaging 13.0 and 12.9 ppg respectively.
In round one action on Friday, Virginia played Gardner-Webb as 22.5-point favorites. They failed to
cover in a 71-56 victory. The team made it to the ACC semifinals before falling by 10 points to
Florida State. For their last 10, the Cavaliers are 9-1 (7-3 ATS).
Totals have been Under for three of the last four and lean that way on the year at 15-19. De’Andre
Hunter leads the way in scoring for Virginia with 15.2 ppg. Kyle Guy is next up with 15.1 ppg. In the
victory over Oklahoma, Mamadi Diakite led the team with 14 points.
Oregon vs. Virginia March Madness Prediction
The Ducks were last in the tournament in 2017. They advanced to the Final Four before dropping a
1-point decision to North Carolina. The year before, the team made it to the Elite Eight before losing
by a score of 80-68.
In last year’s first-round, the #1 seed Cavaliers were stunned by #16 UMBC by a score of 74-54. The
year before, they lost to Florida in the second-round by 26 points. In 2016, they made it to the Elite
Eight before losing to Syracuse six points.
Virginia is the stronger team overall with edges across the board. They’re 8-point favorites as a
result, but Oregon has been playing really well of late. We’ll take the Ducks plus the points as they
keep it closer than expected.
