March Madness Expert Picks: St. John’s vs. Arizona State

The Red Storm survived their opening matchup in the Big East tournament with an 82-74 victory
over DePaul. They weren’t as fortunate in quarterfinal action versus Marquette, falling by a score of
86-54. For the season, St. John’s is 21-12 (14-18-1 ATS).

Arizona State brings a record of 22-10 (17-14-1 ATS) to the table. The team faced off with UCLA in
Pac-12 quarterfinal action, and they walked off the floor with an 83-72 win. They took Oregon to OT
in the semifinal, but they came up short in a 4-point defeat.

St. John’s Red Storm

St. John’s had mixed results in the Big East during the regular season. They were 3-1 versus
conference heavyweights Marquette and Villanova, but they finished up five games behind in the
standings at 8-10. For the last 10 games, the Red Storm are 4-6 (4-6 ATS).

Team totals have been Over for four of the last five and stand at 16-15-1 on the season. Shamorie
Ponds is the team leader with 19.5 ppg and 5.2 apg. Mustapha Heron chips in with 14.9 ppg, while

Arizona State Sun Devils

Arizona State closed out the regular season with wins in five of its last six. The team was 12-6 in
conference play this season, which left them three games behind 1st place Washington. Over their
last 10, the Sun Devils are 7-3 (6-4 ATS).

Totals have been Under for five of the last seven and check in at 13-19 for the year. Luguentz Dort
leads the team with 16.1 ppg. Remy Martin adds in 13.4 ppg and 5.1 dimes, while Zylan Cheatham
adds in 11.8 ppg and 10.4 boards. Dort led the way versus Oregon with 16 points.

St. John’s vs. Arizona State Prediction

These two squads last hooked up in 2017, an 82-70 victory for Arizona State. The Red Storm was
last in the tournament in 2015, falling to San Diego State in round two. The Sun Devils played in the
First Four last year as well, dropping a 4-point decision to Syracuse.

These two squads are a near wash statistically with Arizona State having a slight edge in points for
and against. We’ll take St. John’s to win a close one and advance.
