Odds to Win 2020 College Football Championship
Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence and his teammates were crowned college football national champions in January. This after a 44-16 demolition of the Alabama Crimson Tide at Levi’s Stadium. All things being equal it is the college football offseason but most college football coaching staffs are already preparing for spring ball. Furthermore it is absolutely fair to place Lawrence and the Tigers at the top of the campus football power rankings heading into the 2019 regular season.
Most sportsbook college football futures teeter between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide as the choice to win the 2020 title. This depending on the book, be it Vegas or an Offshore shop.
College Football Power Rankings
This past week ESPN published their first 2019 FPI (Football Power Index). To no surprise the reigning CFP champs top the chart. The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength. That measure is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.
A large part of last season the FPI had Clemson atop the ESPN proprietary rankings. This was in contrast to the national rankings. Alabama ruled the AP and the Coaches polls. Clemson holding the top spot was for many a controversial placement during the 2018 regular season but in the end the Tigers proved to be best.
The Tigers were one of best defenses in the college ranks. Clemson has superior depth and talent not only in the ACC but in all of college football. The Tigers defensive roster was loaded with projected NFL first and second round picks.
Alabama has had the top rated college football recruiting class in four of the last five years. Clemson has won two national championship never closing the signing period with a top-five class.
Finally the 2019 Clemson squad will not only remain one of the best defensive units they head into the 2019 campaign considered one of the best offensives, as well.
