2019 College Football Conference Championship Odds
Media Day in college football has come and gone. As a result, the unofficial official 2019 college football kickoff has arrived. The final two weeks of July are “talking season” while August rings in ‘tackling season”. The Big 12 had the most coaching turnover among the power conferences. The ACC midweek media sessions were all about Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers. With the talking points being all about earning a national championship, again. And finally out west, the USC football program hasn’t been right, nor as good at cheating, since the departure of Pete Carroll on January 11, 2010, to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.
Pac-12 Conference Championship Odds
The power conference that is on the cusp of being excommunicated by the NCAA. And etch it in stone; the Pac-12 will again miss out on being a part of the College Football Playoff Final Four. The drama in SoCal has calmed. This to the degree that it is again safe to enter the “smack-waters” of the Pacific and trash the league as a whole. As well poke fun of the leadership jokes that are cyber-circulating in relastion to Torjans head coach Clay Helton. And lest we forget about the unofficial official soon-to-be head coach at “The U of SC” Urban Meyer.
The Trojans drama during last winter’s holiday season was first all about last year’s 5-7 season. And that was quickly followed by locker-room chatter that just hired offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury got in but wanted out. Rumor has it that KK would have taken a job of quarterbacks coach for any NFL franchise just to get out of the SoCal situation. The social awkwardness of being an assistant to Helton and the baggage that it carried.
An in seemingly a 10-minute career in Los Angeles the grateful Kingsburry accepted the job to be the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Unless Helton and his staff can navigate the rough waters of the Trojans September and early October schedule there will be an interim bench boss in southern Los Angeles until the unmasking of Urban “Cowboy” Myers followed by the announcement of his hiring as head coach of the University of Southern California in late December.

Big-10 Conference Championship Odds
The Bill Self led Kansas Jayhawks have not had one month during a basketball regular-season in which they have not won at least five games in Self’s tenure, , save October or March. Former SEC media darling and first-year Kansas Jayhawks head coach Les Miles joins Big 12 Conference West Virginia’s Neal Brown, Texas Tech’s Matt Wells, and Kansas State’s Chris Klieman as Big 12 rookies. Miles takes over a Kansas football program that has won a total of five league games over the last decade.
This is the peak of “talking’ season,” and college football’s best players and coaches will be in the spotlight with news conferences in front of the national media. That of course, begs the question: What kind of questions can we expect?
- Oklahoma Sooners 5-7 odds
- Texas Longhorns 3-1 odds
SEC Conference Championship Odds
One of the most popular dialogues during the heat of late June and early July is typically about conference strength of schedule. And accurate power ratings of college football’s Big Five leagues. Which conference is the best top to bottom” And the anual query that questions whether the Southeastern Conference and its members are overrated?
If someone, anyone, be it friend, foe, stranger or office rival tries to trade you a timeshare that includes season tickets to two games from each of the other Power Five schools for a share of your SEC alma mater equity turn it down. Don’t politely state “thanks but no thanks”; tuck tail and run for your football life.
The SEC led nearly 90 percent of every non-conference football category last season.
1. Top league record against Power Five teams
2. Conference with the most schools in Top-25. (11 SEC teams can make a case for being in the tradition-rich Top-20 let alone Top-25)
3. I will, before the end of September write a column and make a case for six SEC teams being Final Four quality. And I won’t mention yet who those six teams are but their initials are Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn.
- Alabama Crimson Tide 5-8 odds
- Georgia Bulldogs 3-1 odds
Big Ten Conference Championship Odds
The Big Ten conference is the deepest and is the true flip-of-the-coin league in terms of which school has the most depth and is blue-chip rich in terms of quality to win the conference championship.
The Big 12 was just weak enough at the top of the conference, and offensively talented enough at the bottom of the league, to send 70 percent of its teams to a bowl game. When the offensive-minded and defensively inept Big 12 sends seven of their 10 members bowling it screams to the league’s mediocrity.
- Michigan Wolverines 8-5 odds
- Ohio State Buckeyes 7-4 odds
