Updated 2019 Games of the Year: Ohio State Favored by 13 Over Michigan

Ohio State Buckeyes vs Michigan Wolverines Spread

Ohio State and Michigan do not square off until November 30th at the “Big House”, but the bookmakers at the Westgate Superbook in Las Vegas already have the Buckeyes as 13-point favorites over the Wolverines (check updated College Football Odds from Vegas). Since 1980, the Michigan Wolverines have only been a double-digit underdog at home three other times (all vs the Buckeyes): 2009 +11 vs Ohio State (lost 21-10), 2013 +15.5 vs Ohio State (lost 42-41) and 2017: +11.5 vs Ohio State (lost 31-20). The opening College Football Game of the Year number from Vegas had the Wolverines favored by 2 over the Bucks back on September 9th. In the previous seven games played in the underdog role since becoming head coach of Michigan, Jim Harbaugh is 0-7 (this article is being written before the Penn State game where the Wolverines are +9). Heading into their annual season-ending showdown, Michigan has lost 14 of 15 games versus the Bucks dating back to 2004 and stands at 5-9-1 against the spread.

The Wolverines and Buckeyes first played back in 1897, with Michigan winning 34-0. The two Big 10 rivals have played 115 times, with Michigan leading the series 58-50-6 (or 58-51-6 counting the wins Ohio State had to vacate in 2010). Over the course of 115 games between the two teams, only one time were they ranked 1 and 2 when squaring off. In 2006, Michigan and Ohio State both came into the game undefeated and the Buckeyes walked away with the win 42-39, costing the Wolverines a spot in the BCS National Championship Game (Florida ended up with .945 and Michigan .945)
