It seems as though the end of the college football regular season was an eternity ago, even though we have had conference championship games, bowls games, and the playoff semi-finals to keep us entertained in that time. The season will officially come to an end on Monday night, with the LSU Tigers and the Clemson Tigers going head to head for the National Championship. It has been a fantastic season and it’s hard to argue about these two teams being worthy of being in the title game. After all, they both made it to this point without dropping a single game, which is a task that seems to be getting increasingly more difficult for teams to manage with each passing season. What we have here is a team with a ton of playoff experience in the Clemson Tigers going head to head with an LSU team that might just have the most exciting player in college football starting under center. You would think that the team with all that experience would be favored here, but it is the LSU Tigers who are in as a 5 ½ point favorite for the big game. The point total has been set at 67 ½.

Why bet on the LSU Tigers
You can argue that the LSU Tigers had the easier of the semi-final matchups, with many fans and pundits agreeing that the Oklahoma Sooners were the weakest of the 4 teams heading into the postseason. You cannot, though, deny how good LSU were in finding those weaknesses and exploiting them on the way to a devastating 63-28 win. You do have to winder if Oklahoma were that weak or if the Tigers are just that good. My money is very much on the latter, as they have been playing brilliantly all season long. They have certainly been a fantastic team to bet against the spread, going 11-3-2 ATS in their last 16. They have won 10 of 11 games versus teams from the ACC and have seen 10 of their last 15 games as the favorite go OVER.
Why bet on the Clemson Tigers
It’s easy to forget that a lot of us were talking about how poor the Clemson Tigers, and Trevor Lawrence in particular, looked in the early part of the season. The turning point seemed to come in a win over the UNC Tar Heels, a game that Clemson only escaped because UNC failed on a 2-point attempt late in the game that would have won it for them. From that point forward, the Tigers stepped it up a gear, with their best showing definitely being their 29-23 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the other semi-final. The Tigers are a perfect 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games and are 8-1 ATS in the last 9 games that they started as an underdog.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
At about the midway point of the season, I predicted that the LSU Tigers would win it all this year, so now is not the time to go back on that pick. I think that they cover by the slimmest of margins and I think we see the point total go OVER.
