Mississippi State Bulldogs at Auburn Tigers Preview & Prediction

Prior to the start of the college football season, the original top 25 is really nothing more than guesswork. It’s why we see dramatic changes take place with each passing week, although the top 4 teams always seem to be the best picks of the bunch. With the first month of the season now in the books, the top 4 remains the same. There has, though, been some shuffling in the rankings below that elite group. Cracking the top 4 is never an easy task, as the teams in the chasing pack need to remain perfect while also hoping that one of the big guns slips up along the way. One of the teams making a serious move through the opening few weeks is the Auburn Tigers, who have made the move from #16 all the way up to #7. As good as Auburn has been, you look at the schedule they have ahead of them, and you see that maintaining that spot or climbing higher is going to be incredibly tough. They have a tricky one this weekend, with the Mississippi State Bulldogs coming to town. Auburn is favored by 10 points at home, with the point total set at 46 ½.

Why bet on the Mississippi State Bulldogs

The Mississippi State Bulldogs hit the road with a 3-1 record, and while their offense has been moving the ball quite effectively, they are going up against a Tigers defense that is always tough to break down. The Bulldogs were able to do that last season, taking out Auburn at home, but getting the repeat is going to be no easy task, especially when you consider that they are just 5-13 SU in their last 18 meetings with the Tigers. The SU pick might not seem like a good idea here, but you should certainly consider looking at the Bulldogs against the spread. They are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings with Auburn and have covered in 13 of their last 20 games in September.

Why bet on the Auburn Tigers

Last season did not go well for the Auburn Tigers after getting things rolling with a signature win against Washington. They made a similar start this season, taking down Oregon in Week 1 in a come from behind thriller. Last season, it was when the conference games came into play when the wheels started coming off for the Tigers, so they will want to get a win here, after also beating Texas A&M, to get their SEC schedule off to a solid start. Auburn is always tough to beat at home and are 18-2 SU in their last 20 games at Jordan-Hare. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 September games.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Auburn is a solid defensive team, and while the under has been the trend with them, I think this game might deliver some offense. I think Mississippi State will keep it close throughout, doing enough to cover in a losing cause.
