The Tigers of the Southeastern Conference meet at where else but Tiger Stadium on Saturday for a schedule 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This pair of top-tier SEC football programs were expected to be squaring off with undefeated record but the Auburn Tigers ran into a well-oiled and more-experienced Florida Gators team. The LSU Tigers are battle tested with blemish free record so far in 2019.

In what could be argued as a contrast in styles the debate that the Tigers of LSU isn’t SEC championship quality. Auburn defense deserved more accolades than I am versed in giving. Offensively the Baton Rouge bunch have a significant edge over the crew from Auburn. And defensively there really isn’t a player in the Tigers starting eleven that isn’t the best at his position in the college ranks or believes he is.
Freshman quarterback Bo Nix will be the first to tell you, me or anyone that will listen that his play in the loss to Florida is the reason for the squads defeat earlier this month. The truth is that the true freshman learned from the loss and has improved with each passing game. The offense has improved with each game and the depth of squad is uber-talented. A number of college football pundits will downgrade Auburn because of the injury to running back JaTarvious Whitlow. This simply isn’t accurate.
The truth is that with Whitlow out the Tigers have been as efficient and productive via committee as they were when Whitlow was healthy. To upset the Tigers of LSU – at Tiger Stadium – in Baton Rouge this Auburn group will have to be nearly perfect. Young but talented signal-caller Nix will need to find the soft spots in a middling LSU secondaryif he wants to walk off Tiger Field as the winning quarteback.
There isn’t enough character space to verbalize the talent on this Auburn stop-unit. The Tigers lead all SEC teams in third down conversions; no defensive front in college football pressures opposing quarterbacks like that of Auburns. The front seven of the UA defense are already NFL-ready.
Young gunslinger Nix has already put his less than performance versus an extremely talented defense of Florida behind him. Since mid-September, Nix has completed 70 percent or more of his passes in three of five games. And the strengths that ibis and are Auburn are the strengths of the Tigers from Baton Rouge.
Nix has squared off and competed against some of the best defenses in the country. Against the best of the best his freshman year he has struggled.
The Tigers won their season opener against Oregon in Texas. An event that saw Nix toss a pair of interceptions versus the Ducks. And the Auburn signal-caller completed three passes to the Gators two Saturday behind us.
Nix has played against two great teams. He threw two picks against Oregon, three against Florida, and failed to hit 42% of his passes in both games.
The Auburn defensive secondary hasn’t overachieved in the first half of the 2019 season. And most college experts argue that LSU is vulnerable in their pass defense. Achilles for the Tigers stop-unit it is their secondary. Saturday presents Auburn with the chance to prove that they are not only the best defensive in the SEC but in all of college football.
The Free Pick from this showcase event in Louisiana is a play on the underdog Tigers of Auburn. Burrow isn’t embarrassed with his showing vs the visiting Auburn stop-unit but he isn’t successful enough to outscore the Auburn Tigers.
LSU has been so offensively effective that it has skewed the team’s defensive state line. And while everyone connected to the SEC and either playing, coaching or filling in the blanks talk about Auburns offensive line. But it is their defense that is the best part of anything and everything this Tigers team does.
The media and the local media that cover Auburn rave about their offensive prowess. But the truth is that the Tigers of Auburn strength is their defense .
When the end of this SEC college event nears the close of the fourth quarter on Saturday Auburn won’t just be covering with their near two touchdown handicap they will have the opportunity to win the game straight up.
Free Pick is a play on the Auburn Tigers plus the dozen points
