Texas State vs. Texas A&M Preview
A season-opening 35-7 loss at Rutgers set the tone for Texas State in 2018. The team would slog its way through a 3-9 (6-5-1 ATS) regular season. Along the way, there was a three- and a five-game losing streak. Not much is expected out of the Bobcats this year either as the season win total is projected at 4.5.
It’s a different story for Texas A&M. The team followed up an 8-4 (8-4 ATS) regular season with a 52-13 thumping of NC State in the Gator Bowl. The win total sits at a muted 7.5 due to a tough schedule in which the program will be traveling to play Clemson, Georgia, and LSU, but the club should still be a factor in the SEC West.

Texas State Bobcats
Jake Spavital is the new head coach at Texas State. He was most recently the offensive coordinator at West Virginia, so perhaps the offense will show some life under his tutelage. Bob Stitt is on board as OC, while Zac Spavital oversees the defense.
On offense, there’s a good amount of returning talent in the backfield and on the line. However, there are question marks at QB and some inexperience to deal with at wideout. As for the defense, there’s experience in the secondary but youth elsewhere. The Bobcats tied for 122nd in the nation a season age at 19.8 ppg, while the defense was 71st at 27.7 ppg.
Texas A&M Aggies
After doing a solid job for his first year on the sidelines for the Aggies, Jimbo Fisher is back to do it again. Mike Elko is back to lead the defense, while Jay Graham and Darrell Dickey serve as co-offensive coordinators.
QB Kellen Mond returns to lead the way on offense, and he could take a leap forward this year. He has good talent around him as well as decent experience on the line. There’s attrition to deal with on defense. Last season, the unit was stout versus the run but left something to be desired against the pass. The Aggies ranked 19th in 2018 with 36.0 ppg. The defense was 58th at 26.3 ppg.
Texas State vs. Texas A&M Prediction
This is a big mismatch on paper between two squads on opposite ends of the spectrum. Texas A&M is going to have a field day at the expense of Texas State. We like the Aggies minus the points.
Texas State Bobcats vs. Texas A&M Aggies Pick: Texas A&M Aggies -33.5 (-110)
