Two teams sitting on the last playoff spots of their respective conferences are clashing today, when the New Orleans Pelicans (19-19), who are struggling lately and coming off a loss, are hosting the Detroit Pistons (21-17), who ended a losing streak and want to continue on the winning ways.

Date/Time:  01-08-2018, 20:00 EDT

Spread: New Orleans Pelicans -6

Total: +210

Pelicans have a 19-19 record (20-17-1 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 8th place of the West. They have lost three of their last four matches and in their last game they lost on the road against the Timberwolves with a 98-116 score, not beating the odds. They are led in scoring by DeMarcus Cousins with 25.9 ppg, adding 5.1 assists and a team high 12.6 rebounds per game. He is followed by Anthony Davis with 25.6 ppg and 10.3 rebounds.

Pistons have a 21-17 record (21-15-2 against the spread) so far this season and currently sit on the 7th place of the East. In their last game they snapped a two-game losing streak by winning at home against the Rockets with a 108-101 score, beating the odds. They are led in scoring by Tobias Harris with 18.2 ppg, adding 5.2 rebounds per game. He is followed by Avery Bradley with 15.2 ppg, while Andre Drummond adds 14.6 ppg and a team high 15 rebounds per game.

In their two meetings last season, each team managed to win at home (Pistons by 20 points and Pelicans by 23 points). Pelicans are 9-9 at home so far this season, while Pistons are 8-12 on the road. Pelicans are better offensively, scoring 110.7 ppg to Pistons’ 101.7, while Pistons are better defensively, allowing 101.6 ppg to Pelicans’ third-worse of 111. Pelicans have a better field goal percentage, shooting with a second-best 48.8% to Pistons’ 44.7%, while Pistons have a better 3-point percentage, shooting with 38% to Pelicans’ 37.8%. Pelicans are better in rebounding (42.6 to 41.9) and they are second-best in assists made, with 26.5 to Pistons’ 21.8, while Pistons are better in turnovers committed (14 to 15.9). Last season each team won at home very easily and for today Vegas odds give Pelicans a -6 spread which they are expected to beat easily for the home victory.
