Understanding that the oddsmakers formulate point-spreads for sporting events largely on public perception is an important factor when handicapping a game. Without digging too deep into the underlying variables for any one of the NFL Final Four it is glaringly obvious that the Philadelphia Eagles do not carry much public confidence heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. All things being equal they didn’t get much love last week as home dogs against the 6-seed Atlanta Falcons. Early Super Bowl 52 Line Report: Rodney’s Eagles.

Are the Philadelphia Eagles best described as Rodney’s Eagles or The Philadelphia Dangerfield?

For the second straight week the top-seed in the NFC carries the under-dog-tag in postseason play. It wouldn’t be accurate to state that no one is investing in the Eagles this weekend versus the Vikings. Furthermore it would be a misprint to keyboard up that no bets are coming in on the Lincoln Financial Birds heading into Sunday’s event. In fact at the time of press for this Early Super Bowl 52 Line Report the Eagles have captured over 60 percent of the wagers for the National Football Conference Championship game Sunday.

All things being equal it is still early and in the end it is most likely that the Vikings will garner the majority of the public favor in Sunday’s contest in Philadelphia. The fact that Carson Wentz’s backup, Nick Foles, hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Christmas Day is a large variable in the fact that Case Keenum and the Vikes are field-goal road favorites.

The William Hill of the U.S. oddsmakers are certain enough that they have an accurate pulse on the public perception of the 2018 NFL Final Four that if the Eagles are fortunate enough to find their way to be playing on Super Sunday they would only be a favorite against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It would take a pair of significant upsets on Sunday during the conference championship round to pit the Eagles and the Jazz at U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4th but… “on any given Sunday”.
