There is much more to the English Premier League, or any major European soccer league for that matter, than just deciding who wins the title every year. Yes, it is winning the league that is the goal of every team when the new season begins, but there are usually only a handful of teams who have any real shot at doing that. Outside of the top spot, it’s the battle for European places that is perhaps the most important, with the relegation battle also high on the list. The league has already been decided, with Liverpool winning it with plenty of time to spare, but the European and relegation battles are likely going to rage on until the final few games of the season. This game turns our attention to the bottom half of the table, with West Ham very much in the relegation conversation. Newcastle have pulled themselves clear of that pack, but they will be looking to continue their upward trend with another win on Sunday morning. The bookies see this one as being close, just as it was in their previous meeting, as they have it in as a PK play. The goal total for this one is set at 2 ½.

Why bet on Newcastle
There is a lot going on with this team at the moment and not all of it is taking place on the park. The Newcastle owner is in the process of trying to sell the team, a transaction that has been dragging on for years now. That could very well serve as a distraction for the manager and players, but they have been playing well of late and getting results that have pulled them clear of the relegation zone. Newcastle are now safe from the drop, but they will want to keep those good performances going. Their latest win was a 4-1 thumping of Bournemouth on the road, and they will feel that this is another game they can win, especially since they beat West Ham 3-2 in their earlier meeting this season. Newcastle are 6-7-3 at home, scoring 16 and giving up 13.
Why bet on West Ham
West Ham are one of those iconic old teams who you feel should be a Premier League staple, but they are in real danger of making the drop this season. They are sitting just above the relegation zone, 3 points clear of the drop, but they are also coming off a huge 3-2 win over Chelsea in midweek that is sure to have served as a real confidence boost. That win won’t mean much, though, if they cannot build on it, but they will have been given an early boost with Norwich losing on Saturday and Bournemouth down 2-1 to Manchester United at time of writing. West Ham do need to find a way to get points on the road where they are 3-3-10, scoring 12 and surrendering 26.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
This is a fixture that tends to deliver some goals, so I am thinking that the OVER might well be the way to go here. I also like Newcastle to get the win at home.
