A year ago I wrote that it was time for the Clemson defense to step up to the plate.  All they did was produce the NCAA”s #1 overall defense.  Clemson rode the likes of Vic Beasley and Stephone Anthony to nine regular season wins, plus a demolishing rout of Oklahoma in their bowl game.  Like with FSU, the Tigers will have to face ‘15 without a number of quality starters.

Bobby “the weasel” Petrino stepped into a great situation and did not disappoint.  Former HC Charlie Strong built this team and Petrino and his staff kept the defense at a high level.  Petrino knows offense, so despite losing QB Bridgewater that side of the ball was still fine.  I suspect the offense will continue to be creative but the defense must be rebuilt in ’15.

Orange Bowl Player Propositions: Tide -14 over Sooners

Football is all about scoring these days. From ‘08 through ’13 Alabama allowed an average of under 12 points per game. In ’13 they held nine teams to 10 or fewer points.   The point D was under 17 per game in the regular season of ’14, with seven teams held to 14 or fewer points. As the NCAA moves more to spread offenses it will be interesting to see if the Crimson Tide can continue their fine defensive play.
