The New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays meet tonight for the rubber match of their three game series that is tied 1-1. Toronto carries a 2.5 game lead in the division into tonight’s game and will face Ivan Nova at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Nova is filling in for the injured Masahiro Tanaka after recently being demoted to the bullpen. The Blue Jays have owned Nova, he carries a 7.59 earned run average against Toronto and they are hitting .323 against him in their last seven matchups.
The Yankees, coming off their extra inning win last night will face Marcus Stroman. Stroman recently came off the DL and will be making only his third start of the season, one of those was a win at Yankee stadium in which he pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs. The Yankees are hoping to get to Stroman early and get his pitch count up as Toronto used six relievers in extra innings Tuesday night. Greg Bird has been filling in nicely for Mark Teixeira at first base, hitting the go ahead homer in the 10th inning last night and riding a seven game hitting streak.
I expect Toronto to hit Nova hard again and the Yankees to have better at bats against Stroman, this being their second time facing him within the last two weeks. I expect a lot of base runners in what is a pivotal game for both teams trying to win the AL East division crown.
Free MLB Pick: Toronto to win and over 8.5 total runs.
