Two squads that participated in the Eurocup competition last season are clashing today in the first week of action of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Basketball, when the Spanish champions of Valencia are visiting the Russian finalists of Khimki Moscow.

Khimki in Eurocup last year finished with a 6-2 record the group phase and were placed on top of Group B. In the top 16 phase they were 4-2 and were placed 2nd in Group H. In the playoffs they got defeated by their rivals today Valencia in the quarterfinals 2-1. In their latest matchup their domestic league they won against VEF Riga on the road with a 64-104 score. Alexey Shved led the team in scoring with 22.1 ppg, adding a team-best 5.2 dimes per game.
Valencia in Eurocup last year finished with a 7-1 record and were placed on top of Group D. In the top 16 phase they had a perfect 6-0 record and were placed first in Group H. In the playoffs they eliminated Khimki in the quarterfinals 2-1, Hapoel Jerusalem in the semifinals 2-1 and they got defeated in the finals by Unicaja with 2-1 wins. In their latest matchup in their domestic league they won against Tenerife on the road with a 67-70 score. Boban Dubljevic led the team in scoring with 11.9 ppg, adding a team-best 6.8 boards per game.
This will be the first time those two teams meet in the history of the competition. Khimki had a 7-1 home record last season in Europe, while Valencia were 7-2 on the road. Khimki were the best offensive team in Eurocup last season with 87.6 ppg to Valencia’s 80.7. They also had better accuracy both from the field with 48.3% to Valencia’s 45.6% and from behind the arc with 36.4% to Valencia’s 34%. Valencia on the other hand were grabbed more rebounds, with 33.8 to Khimki’s 32 and committed less turnovers (11 to 12.9). Khimki are coming in hot after a 40-point win in the Russian league and with the home court advantage expect them to win by more than 4 points today.
