UEFA Europa League Final
Two of England’s most popular and supported clubs that reside about five miles apart will take a pitch over a thousand miles away in a match for the Europa League Championship. Arsenal and Chelsea, tradition rich English Premier League squads from London, will square off in the May 29 final. The scheduled2019 Europa League title match will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. UEFA Europa League Final: Arsenal vs Chelsea.
Heading into the late May match there are more questions about specifics that surround the event than the match itself. Published reports have Arsenal and Chelsea supporters questioning the European football’s governing body decision. EUFA has refused to give reasons for allocating a mere 12,000 tickets to the two London clubs. This considering the venue in Baku holds over 64,000.
All things being equal it is difficult to hold UEFA completely accountable for the selection of Baku as the venue for the 2019 Europa final. The choice by the UEFA governing body made the decision in 2017. Predicting that the two finalist would be London based was unlikely even part of the considerations.
A number of respected international football managers, including Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, spoke to the choice of Baku as “irresponsible.” The Liverpool boss went as far as to state that “Going to Baku for a Europa League final is really funny, I think. The guys who make the decisions, I don’t know what they have for breakfast. Last year we went to Kiev, which is a wonderful city, but that a Russian team or a team from that part of the world would be involved is not really likely”.
Klopp told the U.K. media he didn’t know if there was air travel to Azerbaijan. “Baku, I don’t even know how to go there or if there is any regular flight. These decisions, they must be much more sensible and reasonable. It looks irresponsible.”
Regardless of what is believed or though of the deision for the Europa League Final to be held in Baku it is the local that will be the place Arsenal and Chelsea meet on May 29.
