In the second quarterfinal of the Euroleague Basketball, we have the opening game of the top-seeded and defending champions both of Turkey and Euroleague Fenerbahce (25-5), who are hosting the eighth-seeded and Lithuanian Champions Zalgiris Kaunas (15-15), with both teams having won their last two and six games respectively and are looking to extend those winning streaks today.

Fenerbahce finished the regular season with a 25-5 record and were placed first the league. They have won four of their last five matches and in their last game they won at home against Maccabi Tel Aviv with a 78-75 score. They are led in scoring by Jan Vesely with 13 ppg, adding a team high 5.4 rebounds per game. He is followed by Kostas Sloukas with 12 ppg and a team high 4.7 assists per game, while Nikola Kalinic adds 9.8 ppg and 3.3 boards per game.

Zalgiris Kaunas finished the regular season with a 15-15 record and were placed 8th in the league. They have won seven of their last eight matches and in their last game they won on the road against Real Madrid with an 86-93 score. They are led in scoring by Brandon Davies with 14.4 ppg, adding a team high 5.7 boards per game. He is followed by Nate Wolters with 10.9 ppg and a team high 4 dimes per game, while Marius Grigonis adds 8.9 ppg.

Fenerbahce won both previous meetings against Zalgiris in the regular season (at home by 17 points and on the road by 7). Fener have a 15-0 home record, while Zalgiris are 7-8 on the road. Fenerbahce are better both offensively, scoring 84.3 ppg to Zalgiris’ 79.7 and defensively, allowing 75.8 ppg to Zalgiris’ 78.5 ppg. They also have better percentages both in field goals (52.9% to 49%) and in 3-pointers (43.2% to 38.9%). Zalgiris on the other hand are better in boards grabbed (29.2 to 27.3), while Fenerbahce are better in turnovers committed (11.2 to 12.6) and both teams are almost equal in dimes made (18.2 to 18). Fenerbahce are the absolute favorite and Vegas odds give them a -9 spread and expect them to beat the odds for an easy home victory.
