The ACC tournament tips off Tuesday in Brooklyn with three opening-round bouts, two of which we’re recommending for betting action. Free College Basketball Picks: Tuesday at the ACC Tournament.
Boston College -2/138.5 vs. Georgia Tech (noon ET, ESPN2)
The Eagles are the 12 seed for this ACC tournament, after going 7-11 in conference play. BC actually reached 6-7 in the conference heading into the home stretch, but lost four of its last five games, most recently a 85-76 decision at Florida State Saturday.
The Yellowjackets are the 13 seed, after going just 6-12 in ACC play. G-Tech lost seven in a row into March, then won its last two, most recently beating Wake Forest Saturday 64-56.
Boston College won the only meeting between these teams this season, an 80-72 overtime decision up in Boston one month ago. The Eagles trailed by 13 late in the first half, rallied to take a seven-point lead with seven minutes to go then needed a 3 with 30 seconds left to force OT. Boston College then scored the final nine points of the overtime and covered as 3-point favorites.
Also, that game sat at 138 points through regulation, against a betting total of 139, going over in OT.
We’re giving the Eagles the advantage in the backcourt match-up here, and that’s where games are won and lost in March, right?

Syracuse -4/133 vs. Wake Forest (7 pm ET, ESPNU)
The Orange are the 11 seed, after going 8-10 in the ACC this season. Syracuse reached 7-7 in conference play, but lost three in a row, before finishing with a 55-52 win over Clemson Saturday. The Orange are an NCAA tournament bubble team, and probably need a win here to stay alive.
The Demon Deacons, meanwhile, are the 14 seed, after going just 4-14 in ACC play. Wake lost six of its last eight, including a 64-56 decision at Georgia Tech Saturday. But the Deacs played in some hard luck; each of their last six losses have come by eight points or less.
These teams split two meetings during the regular season; Wake won at home 73-67 and the ‘Cuse won at home 78-70.
Also, both games played over totals of 137 and 134.
A quick glance at the records might indicate Syracuse should be favored by more than four points. But maybe that’s what the oddsmakers want us to think. The two earlier meetings played out pretty close, so we’ll take the points here.
