Free Horse Racing Picks: Gulfstream Park for March 9, 2016:

Race 1-

3- Tilted Halo (7/2 ML) won last out at this distance over the dirt and making third start off a long layoff this gelding finds himself in a good spot here

6- Red Hot Ralph (6/1 ML) making first start off the claim for the Jorge Navarro barn and they are hitting 37% with these types.  Retains Saez in the irons who produced a first and a second in his past two outings

9- Mongolian Sunday (8/1 ML) class dropper who sees the dirt for the first time, has some nice speed figures but all on the turf so he is a wildcard today

Race 2 –

6- Killer Bird (5/2 ML) dropping today and seeing this level for the first time, also going from route to sprint off a two plus month layoff, recent works are unimpressive, but she has flashed ability

3- Pomera (3/1 ML) first time starter for the Nicks barn, sire is Pomeroy who hits at a 15% rate with firsters and this one put in a nice work here on 2/17

7- Dancing Wind (10/1 ML) returning to the dirt after experimenting with the turf, this one finished a respectable third in her debut over this surface last May before two long layoffs between turf starts

Race 3 –

8- Hail Cepheus (3/1 ML) this one is trying to find his spot as he won by four lengths two back at in a MC12500, tried stepping up to a 20k claimer and was beaten soundly, good work on 2/11 says he’s ready

3- Flowers for Lisa (4/1 ML) this one has it the board in his last four starts for the Sharp barn and is making a step up to this level but speed figures show he can compete

5- Unspoken Quality (5/2 ML) seeing this level for the first time and returning to dirt, this gelding his hit the board in 9 of his 12 career starts

Race 4 –

3- Holy Scat (2/1 ML) first off the claim for the Cibelli barn, this one gets Castellano in the irons who won in his only start for this barn in the past 60 days

2- Angora (3/1 ML) set the early pace last out at this distance but couldn’t hold the lead, Werner barn his hit the board with 3 of its last 4 starters

8- Beeline (4/1 ML) making her second start off a long layoff, this one should see some improvement today for the Romans barn

Race 5-

5- Overdramatic (9/5 ML) this one is taking a huge drop today after debuting in a MC75000 where she closed hard down the stretch in a 7 1/2f affair on 2/3.  Chad Brown and Javier Castellano have won at a 32% rate and hit the board an impressive 68% of the time together over the last two months

1- Kenitra (3/1 ML) this filly has hit the board in both efforts at this level and is coming off an 84 speed figure last out which far exceeds today’s field

4- Duchess Bird (5/1 ML) adds blinkers today for the Nicks barn, question is does this one have the stamina to finish strong
Race 6-

3- Starship Brooklyn (2/1 ML) making her second start off the claim for the Petro barn (29%) this one should be in better shape than she was first off a very long layoff

9- Mo Wees (4/1 ML) this one never recovered from a rough start last out, but had hit the board in her previous two outings prior to last out at this level.  Should recover and be a factor today.

6- Spring Me (3/1 ML) this one has not won, and it doesn’t appear today is her day, but she is a good candidate to complete the exacta and trifecta

Race 7-

4- Prince Vincenzo (7/2 ML) making his third start off the claim for the Sharp barn this one should be faster than the rest in here and will appreciate the class relief he gets today

6- Stock (6/1 ML) second off the reclaim for Preciado, this one finding success for this barn before a January claim

1- Foxhall Drive (6/1 ML) the last time this one saw this level he was claimed off a win on 1/13.  Saez was aboard for that win, and is aboard again today, can lightning strike twice?

Race 8-

2- West Eighth Street (7/2 ML) making only his third career start, this one comes in off a 13 plus month layoff.  Trainer hits at a 27% rate with 90+ day layoffs and recent works say this one can still run

4- Shutter Speed (3/1 ML) the Sharp barn is shipping this one in from Fairgrounds (22%) and he is seeing this level for the first time.  Has hit the board in 4 of 7 starts since being claimed last June

1-True Diplomacy (6/1 ML) this one showed some pep down the stretch last out at this level and was then claimed by a low percentage barn, not sure what to expect today has had success on this surface

Race 9-

1- Smokin Red Hot (7/2 ML) first off the claim and getting turf for the first time, like the inside post as a good start should put him on the lead

2- Leopardshill Road (8/1 ML) first off the claim for Marcial Navarro (29%) and coming off a 46 day layoff (26%) this one had two nice workouts while taking a short break, will see turf for the first time today

3- Pennetta (4/1 ML) moving back to the turf after winning last out over the dirt, this one has not won at this level, but has competed

Race 10-

4- Tight Weave (3/1 ML) six month layoff (29%), this one ships in (22%) for today’s race and should be faster than this field

7- Ramblin N Gamblin (7/2 ML) broke her maiden in her only career start here in December at this distance running a lightning :44.4 ½ mile, will make this a two horse race with the 4

2- Go Ro Go (4/1 ML) was a closing second here two back before trying her hand at stakes races, this one should appreciate a return to weaker competition

Race 11-

10- Starship Hostility (5/1 ML) has only tried dirt twice and finished third last time in December over this track, adding blinkers and an awful field lead us to believe she is the best of the worst

7- Paddlemyowncanou (12/1 ML) coming in off a 10 month layoff this one saw better competition last time she raced here in May, should be a nice price and this is a really bad race so not counting anyone out

3- Forever Afleet (2/1 ML) this filly has 15 career starts and zero wins, only the morning line maker can make this one the favorite in this field, maybe thinking she is the best of the worst.
