Free Horse Racing Picks: Gulfstream Park for March 17, 2016:

March 23, 2016

Today at Gulfstream Park courtesy of SIG (@SIGLasVegas)

Race 1-

8- Mr. Smith (5/1 ML) this colt sees turf for the first time today and gets a huge upgrade with Paco Lopez in the irons for the Plesa barn who is hitting at a 30% rate when going from Maiden to Maiden Claiming

2- Alsvid Gullfaxi (8/1 ML) gelding is making on his third career start, and first off a three month layoff, stamina has been a concern, but thinking that the time off may have been used to improve conditioning

1- Aventus (9/2 ML) making third start off a long layoff and second start on the turf for Sano, jock upgrade today with Velazquez should provide this one a fighting chance today

Race 2 –

4- Zapata Sky (2/1 ML) this gelding was making a late charge last out in January off an almost two month layoff with Castellano aboard on the grass, back on dirt today off a two month layoff retains Castellano and Kenneally is winning 25% with second time starters for his barn

6- Bettarun Realfast (7/2 ML) gelding has hit the board in four of his last six races, had a rough start last out so we will overlook that performance and look for another strong performance from this one

1- Ruffalex (5/1 ML) this six-year-old is making only his eighth career start and his hit the board in all of them except last out here on 3/4 when he never recovered from a poor start

Race 3 –

1- Breezy My Way (5/2 ML) first off the claim for Preciado (27%), nice workout on 3/15 leads us to believe that this colt can get his first turf win today

8- Clear Status (7/2 ML) returning to grass after winning last out on the dirt, Trombetta wins at a 36% rate when moving up multiple classes which this six-year-old does today, performed well on turf last fall

7- Big Island Boy (10/1 ML) ships in from Tampa (21%) and is shortening up today after routing for his past five races, gelding will appreciate the drop to this level today

Race 4 –

6- Gee Pea Ess (7/5 ML) this four-year-old colt only has four starts under his belt and has hit the board in three of four, but has yet to break his maiden, nice speed figures in past two outings, and Nevin barn is winning 23% of her sprint entries

2- The Son Wind (3/1 ML) gelding has never raced on the turf, and breeding is not very encouraging on this angle, but was claimed last out and Zerpa is hitting 25% with his first time starters

7- Trouble in Phoenix (4/1 ML) first time starter that has turf pedigree has been working well for the hot tandem of Lynch/Leparoux who have won 44% of their collaborations the past two months

Race 5-

7- Miles of Humor (5/2 ML) colt is making his second career start for the Nicks barn (23%), had a rough start in his debut and should see improvement with a clean break and better trip today

6- Blind Ruckus (4/1 ML) gelding is making his second start off a three plus month layoff, had to check up last out and still finished second, better trip today can put this one in the winner’s circle

2- Eklipsado (6/1 ML) finished second in two-year-old debut in December here and followed that up with a poor second effort in January, but showed improvement last out and think experience will help this colt today

Race 6-

1- Lady’s Lunar Luck (2/1 ML) has hit the board in eight of her last nine races, this eight-year-old mare shows no signs of slowing down and won last out here on 3/6, adds Castellano today which is another positive

5- Rose Graciela (7/2 ML) this filly is starting for her fourth barn since being claimed out of a race here on 12/16 but has only missed the board once in her past 10 races, love consistency of this one

2- Great Cross (4/1 ML) making second start for the Walder barn (23%) who is winning 27% at the Claiming level should be running late

Race 7-

6- Scarlet Goddess (8/5 ML) second start off the claim for Nevin (26%) this filly has looked good in all four career starts and gets the experience of Paco Lopez for today’s trip

2- Outzap (9/5 ML) first time Maiden Claiming for Pletcher today with this one (34%) who has not shown the stamina to win yet but could appreciate the class relief today

1- Bermuda Longtail (5/1 ML) first start off the claim for Preciado (27%) and filly adds Lasix today after a failed turf experiment last out here on 3/3

Race 8-

2- Thatcher Street (4/5 ML) kept looking for a reason for this one to lose, but cannot find a good one to go against this one today, second start off layoff and has hit the board in eight of his past nine starts

7- US Marshall (12/1 ML) three plus month layoff for this gelding who is shipping in from Woodbine but he has been working well and they are taking the blinkers off today, looking for a good run out of this one today

3- Johnny Bear (20/1 ML) second off the layoff and second start for DePaulo today, this one had some decent turf performances last summer at Woodbine and should improve today

Race 9-

2- Grand Bambu (5/2 ML) red hot trainer Navarro is hitting at a 33% rate with layoffs of 90+ days, and this one has been off for over 11 months, regular work since February lead us to believe he will have this one ready to go today

1- Pachanga Party (3/1 ML) last seen on 12/27 weakening down the stretch at 7 furlongs, this gelding should appreciate a return to 5½f, a distance he won at Gulfstream Park West on 11/4

3- Keepin It Zeal (8/1 ML) first off the claim Maymo, has not looked good recently, but change of scenery could be a positive

Race 10-

10- Castor (4/1 ML) filly has made 5 career starts for Pletcher and has hit the board in four of those, all with Velazquez in the irons who will ride again today

3- Auntie Joy (8/1 ML) broker her maiden at Churchill in November before trying stakes company here in January where she didn’t have a great trip, this daughter of Uncle Mo should appreciate to a more competitive level today

13- Silky Girl-AE (6/1 ML) we need a scratch to get this one into the field today, but watch out if she is in there as she has some nice workouts after running out of gas last time out here 2/7

Race 11-

1- Veya (3/1 ML) first off the claim for Walder (27%) has hit the board in three of his past four races and is shortening up to 7½f today which should be appreciated by this gelding who doesn’t seem to prefer the longer routes anymore

3- Lone Trader (4/1 ML) second start for the Kimmel barn (40%) this gelding is making his second Florida start off a two plus month layoff

7- Whitesoftheireyes (15/1 ML) won last out which was coming out of an almost 10 month layoff at this distance, step up in class could be a bigger challenge than this one is ready for
