In horse racing, there are some horses that run their best race when they get to the front from the start, while others like to come off the pace and finish strong. The horse racing analogy is a good one for the 162-game baseball season, as it very often plays out like a horse race. In the early going, you have a bunch of teams that come storming out the gate in search of the lead, while others are a little slower to get going. Some teams have the skill and stamina to stay in front, while other bucks under the pressure being placed on them by the chasing pack. The season is heading into the homestretch now, with the teams currently sitting in front having a clear advantage over the rest. The question at this point is about which teams will stay there and which of the chasing teams can make a late move to get into the playoffs. This interleague series features a pair of teams with postseason dreams. The Diamondbacks won the opener and are favored by 1 ½ for this one. The run total has been set at 10 ½.

Why bet on the Arizona Diamondbacks
If we are being totally honest, there is no way any team in the NL West is going to run down the LA Dodgers. The Diamondbacks are the closest to the leader in the division, but they are still sitting 14 games off the pace. With that in mind, Arizona are almost certainly going to be turning their attention to the Wild Card race. They are very much in that hunt, sitting just a single game out of the final spot in the NL Wild Card. While they are just 5-5 in their last 10 games, those 5 wins came in the last 7, including a stunning 9-2 win over the Rangers in the opening game of this series. Arizona are 28-25 SU on the road and are a solid 10-4 overall in interleague play. It will be Robbie Ray (7-6, 3.81 ERA) on the mound for this one.
Why bet on the Texas Rangers
As the first half of the season drew to a close, the Texas Rangers were on a run that pulled them right back into the hunt in the AL West. They have started to fall off the pace again, though, losing 3 in a row and going 4-6 in their last 10 games. That run has left them 5 ½ games off the pace being set by the Houston Astros in the division. With the loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, the Rangers are now 1-2 versus Arizona this season and 8-8 overall in interleague games. You do like the Rangers chances of getting back on track at home, though, as they are 31-20 in their own ballpark this season. They will have Jesse Chavez (3-4, 3.84 ERA) on the mound for this one.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Given the Rangers record at home, I have a tough time seeing them losing back to back games in this series. With that in mind, I am taking them to cover the spread here, and I also believe they pick up the win in a close one.
