Astros at Rays ALDS Game 4 Preview & Prediction

The MLB playoffs are well and truly underway, with one team already booking safe passage into the ALCS. The New York Yankees let every other team in the postseason know that they are not going to be an easy out, taking care of the Minnesota Twins in a 3-game sweep and scoring a ton of runs in the process. Over in the National League, things are a good deal tighter, with both of the series there set to go the full 5 games. The Yankees are now just sitting back and waiting to see who they will face in the ALCS, with that answer potentially set to arrive this evening. The Houston Astros will look to close out their series with the Tampa Bay Rays on the road, as they come into Game 4 of the series with a 2-1 lead. They actually had the chance to complete the sweep, but they were unable to get the job done in Game 3. The Astros will once again be favored by 1 ½, with the run total for this one set at 7 ½.

Why bet on the Houston Astros

Given that the Houston Astros won 60 of their 81 home games this season, it was perhaps no surprise that they came out and won the opening two games of this series. They cruised to a comfortable 6-2 win in the opener before playing some great defensive ball to win 4-1 in Game 2. While they would love to have closed things out in game 3 and got a bit of a break before the ALCS, they were given a warning that moving on was not going to be that easy, with the Rays winning 10-3 last time out. They will be hoping that Justin Verlander can deliver the goods in the same way that he did in the opening game of this series. Verlander surrendered just 1 hit in 7.1 innings of ball, fanning 8 and getting the win.

Why bet on the Tampa Bay Rays

While the Tampa Bay Rays were not as dominant at home as the Astros were, they were still certainly solid in the regular season, closing out with a 48-33 record. It would have been easy for them to just roll over and die after losing the opening 2 games of the series, but they struck back in a big way, driving home 10 runs and giving themselves some life in the ALDS. The problem that they face here, though, is going against a pitcher who is at the top of his game and who has a wealth of experience in these situations. The Rays are going to need to play this one close and hope that they can win late with their awesome bullpen. They will have Diego Castillo, who has pitched just 1.2 innings this postseason, in as the starter.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Astros will be kicking themselves for needing to play another game in a series they looked to have in hand. I don’t see them passing up another opportunity to close it out, especially with Verlander coming to the mound.
