The teams sitting atop their respective divisions at this stage of the season have a definite edge when it comes to the playoff race, but history has shown that teams have a tendency to get a little tight as we head towards the finish line. There are a couple of division races that look to be all but done, but there are a few more that still have the potential to go all the way down to the wire. Those are the ones where we might just see some dramatic moment occur before we reach the end of the regular season. The Minnesota Twins are in one of those divisions, and while they are at the top of the AL Central, they are far from safe, as the Cleveland Indians have been turning up the heat in a big way. The Atlanta Braves are also at the top of their division, and while they look to be a little better off than the Twins, but they have certainly not got the NL East all locked up. This is a great interleague series to get the new week started, with the Braves favored by 1 ½ and the run total set at 10.

Why bet on the Atlanta Braves
Even after going through a 4-game home series that ended in a bit of a disappointing split with the Cincinnati Reds, the Braves were still able to come out looking very good. The Washington Nationals, the team sitting second in the NL East, dropped back to back games over the weekend, leaving Atlanta with a 7-game lead at the top of the division. The Braves continue to pile on the runs, becoming only the second team in the NL to hit 600 runs on the season. That, combined with the beefing up of their bullpen at the trade deadline, makes them a very dangerous proposition. Atlanta will try to improve upon their 34-22 road record this series, as well as their 4-4 record in interleague play. They will start Mike Soroka (10-2, 2.37 ERA) in this one.
Why bet on the Minnesota Twins
It really was beginning to look as though the Minnesota Twins were going to totally blow the double-digit lead they had at the top of the AL Central, but they appear to have rediscovered their mojo. They swept their season series with the Kansas City Royals to move to 8-2 in their last 10 games, which is good enough to keep them 3 games up on the Cleveland Indians in the division. It was a great start to this current homestand, improving their record in their own ballpark to 34-21. This is a team that has been a fantastic bet when in as a home underdog, going 8-3 ATS in those 11 outings. They have had a tough time in interleague play, going 7-9 SU. It will be Jake Odorizzi (12-5, 3.73 ERA) who gets the start here.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
We have a fantastic pitching match-up for this one, which suggests to me that the run total might be set a little too high. I think we are looking at a close one here, with the Braves just slightly edging it. The Twins ATS might be the safest bet.
