It is an understatement to claim the Kansas City Royals are struggling since their 9-game winning streak in late July. The Royals are 2-8 in their last 10 games and are only in the American League Central title hunt because the first place Cleveland Indians are 3-7 in their last 10 affairs.
The Kansas City pitching has been the team’s Achilles and on Thursday night the franchise placed right-hander Trevor Cahill on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder impingement syndrome on Thursday.
Cahill was one of the non-waiver trade deadline acquisitions by the Royals in July in a multiplayer exchange with the San Diego Padres. Cahill has done little to validate the trade. In his three starts with the Royals the right-hander has a 8.18 ERA which includes surrendering 10 earned runs in just 11 innings of work. He also has walked (9) more batters than he has struck out (6) while allowing four home runs.
The Royals have a big game tonight against the last place Chicago White Sox. KC sends ace southpaw Danny Duffy (7-7, 3.48 ERA) to the bump in Chicago to oppose White Sox recently acquired righty Reynaldo Lopez (2016: 5-3, 4.91) with the aim of halting a four-game losing streak.
