MLB Playoff Scenarios: When do the 2015 MLB playoffs start?

The St. Louis Cardinals have been measured, evaluated and referred to as a team that isn’t as good as their Major League Baseball best record (92-54). The Redbirds organization has held that top spot in the overall standings for almost five months.

The Cardinals, currently 92-54, have held the honor of the  “best record” in baseball and sit five games ahead of the National League Central’s second place team, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pittsuburgh, who is 87-59, are long shots to catch the Cardinals in the Central, but they have a superior record to the American League’s top squad, the Kansas City Royals (86-60).

And the Pirates are only two games ahead of the Theo Nathaniel Epstein led Chicago Cubs.

AMERICAN LEAGUE EAST

The top two teams in the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees played a four-game series in the Bronx this past weekend and when all was said and done, and at press time of this MLB piece, the Jays have a confident three and one-half game lead over the Bombers.

AMERICAN LEAGUE CENTRAL

The Royals magic number is only six games with 16 games to play and according to Baseball Prospectus they are a lock to be the division champs

AMERICAN LEAGUE WEST

The combination of Adrian Beltre and Prince Fielder has given the Rangers the lead in the division. Considering the fact that Texas was eight games back of first place, sitting in the third slot after losing on August 1st, they deserve to be where they are after going a stellar 28-14 since the All Star break. They’ve won six straight over the Astros, who had been in first place since July 28.

NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST

Nearly every Major League Baseball expert this spring called the Washington Nationals the most likely to win the National League East and many believe the odds-on favorite to win the 2015 World Series. The Mets own an eight game lead in the division and the Nationals players are already making fall tee times rather than Fall Classic reservations.

NATIONAL LEAGUE CENTRAL

As was previously mentioned, the St Louis Cardinals have the best record in baseball in arguably the overall toughest division in all of baseball. Chicago Cubs Anthony Rizzo assisted his teammates in what was a six-run fifth inning with his 30th homer of the season on Thursday, September 17, allowing the  Chicago Cubs to rally for a 9-6 victory over the Pirates in Pittsburgh closing out a four game series that saw the Northsiders to take three of four games. The Cubs moved within two games behind the Pirates, who are in the top wild-card position in the NL. If by some measure the two close the 2015 regular season with identical records, Chicago would own home-field advantage between the two having won the season series, with 10 wins in 16 games.

NATIONAL LEAGUE WEST

The Dodgers have a seven and one-half game lead over the pedestrian Giants, who are – by-the-way – the reigning World Champions. This division is all but over and those sitting behind the Dodgers have already cleaned out their lockers for the winter.
