Major League Baseball and Team USA announced on Tuesday that Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton is the latest addition to the upcoming World Baseball Classic roster. According to published reports Stanton made the news known via Twitter and Instagram late Tuesday night.
Stanton, the newest and arguably one of the more exciting adds to Team USA is in the prime of his baseball career. The 27 year old Marlin hit .381 in 17 at-bats during his first World Baseball Classic.
UPI reported that Stanton spelled out “Boom, I’m coming back to Team USA,” on Instagram. “World Baseball Classic let’s go!!!!” The Miami outfielder will play along side teammate Christian Yelich.
Other news from Team USA is that Kansas City Royals All-Star first basemen Eric Hosmer was also added to the active roster.
Team USA aims to claim their first ever World Baseball Classic title that is scheduled to have the squad take Marlins Park in Florida on March 10 against Colombia.
