Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves Preview & Prediction

We are close to the point where every team in the league is about to cross the 100-game mark, which means that we are getting to the critical part of the season. The race for the division titles and Wild Card spots is very much in full swing, with the races in the National League about as tight as it gets. The LA Dodgers appear to be safe and playoff-bound in the NL West, while the Atlanta Braves are getting to that point in the East. The Braves have opened up a nice little lead in the East, with the Nationals the team trying to run them down. It goes without saying that this series is a big one, but it has been a stalemate to this point, with the opening two games ending in a split. That goes more in the favor of the Braves, as it’s Washington who is under pressure to close that gap at the top. The Saturday night game sees the Braves favored by 1 ½ in their own ballpark, with the run total set at 10.

Why bet on the Washington Nationals

The Washington Nationals gave themselves a tough road to follow the rest of the way when they got their season off to a very poor start. It looked for a while as though we were in for a 2-horse race between the Braves and the Phillies, but the Nationals finished the first half strong, moving up into second in the division, now 6 ½ games back of the Braves. They came out with a big 13-4 win in the opening game of this series on Thursday night but went down 4-3 in the second game. Overall, the Nationals have a 4-3 lead in the regular season series, and they are 25-25 SU on the road. As a road dog, Washington are 14-8 ATS. They will have Anibal Sanchez (5-6, 3.71 ERA) on the mound for this one.

Why bet on the Atlanta Braves

The Braves have a nice 6 ½ game lead at the top of the division, but they still have some work to do before they can clinch their second straight division crown. They actually needed the win on Friday night, as they had just gone on a stretch of games where they had lost 3 in a row. Even with that poor run, the Braves are still 6-4 in their last 10 games and have put together a 29-20 record at home. On the negative side of things, Atlanta is just 1-5 in their last 6 home games against the Nationals, and they have seen the UNDER hit in 8 of their last 11 games overall. The Braves are just 18-24 ATS as a home favorite, but you have to like their chances with Mike Soroka (10-1, 2.24 ERA) on the mound.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

When it is Mike Soroka who has the ball, the Braves tend to win more often than not. I really like the UNDER here, and I also like Atlanta to come away with the win.
