The underdog isn’t just 4-0 against the spread over the last four Cardinals-Seahawks games, it’s 3-0-1 straight up. Who will cover when these NFC West rivals meet for the first time this season Thursday night in Glendale (8:25 pm ET, NBC)?
Most of this week’s NFL betting market opened Seattle at -6 over Arizona, with a total of right around 42. In early betting action the total dipped to 41.
According to Sagarin’s PREDICTOR ratings at USAToday.com the Seahawks should be favored by 7.5 points.
Seattle (5-3 SU, 3-5 ATS) just had a four-game winning streak snapped by a 17-14 loss at home to Washington last week. The Seahawks trailed 10-2 into the fourth quarter, rallied to take a 14-10 lead, but gave up a very quick touchdown and in the end came up empty on a Hail Mary.
Seattle actually nearly doubled-up the Redskins in total yardage at 437-244 and won the ground battle 148-51. But they missed three field goals and two 2-point conversions and got called for 16 penalties for 138 yards.
Arizona (4-4, 2-6), meanwhile, just picked up a much-needed 20-10 victory over San Francisco. The Cardinals scored five minutes into the game to take the lead for good, and eventually covered as three-point favorites.
Arizona outgained the 49ers on the day 368-329 and won the ground battle 167-63, with Adrian Peterson racking up 159 yards on 37 carries.
QB Drew Stanton, in for the injured Carson Palmer, wasn’t great, completing half his 30 passes for 201 yards with two touchdowns and one bad interception. But he’s now 9-5 as an NFL starter.
Big-picture, at 5-3 Seattle trails the first-place Rams by one game in the NFC West, with 4-4 Arizona another game back. The Seahawks also sit in the seven spot in the NFC standings, a tiebreaker behind sixth-seeded Dallas, while the Cardinals sit another game (and a tiebreaker) behind.
Seattle is 5-3-1 SU and 6-3 ATS over the last nine meetings in this series. Last year these teams played to an ugly 6-6 tie in Glendale, before the Cardinals pulled a 34-31 upset up in Seattle.
Unders are 5-3 in Seahawks games this season, which are averaging 42 total points.
Unders are 6-2 in Cardinals games, which are averaging 43 points.

Seattle has Russell Wilson and the better defense, even banged up. Meanwhile we remain dubious of an Arizona offense dependent upon Stanton and Peterson. We’re giving the points here with the Seahawks.
