This is probably not what the MLB had in mind when they chose to start the season, with teams affected by coronavirus and games already being postponed because of the positive tests. As it stands at the moment, the season can still be saved, but the number of games that now need to be made up are beginning to grow, which is going to make squeezing them in a bit of a tough task for the schedule makers. We are probably going to see a lot of doubleheaders along the way, with those games reduced to 7 innings already. The good news is that while we have a few teams impacted by the positive tests, there are many more who are not, so we still have plenty of games to watch and wager on. One of the more surprising divisions in the early going is the AL West, which we thought would be dominated by the Houston Astros. That has not been the case, though, as we have a tight race going on. Oakland will look to win this series on Monday night, having already taken 2 of 3 from Seattle. The mariners are favored by 1 ½ in this one.

Why bet on the Oakland A’s
It’s not a complete surprise to see the Oakland A’s sitting in top of the AL West in the early going, but what is surprising is how poor they have been offensively. They have managed just 30 runs through their first 9 games of the season, yet they have still found a way to go 5-4. That bodes well for the A’s if the bats can get hot, but it could prove to be problematic if this is what we are to expect from them all season long. Given the lack of offense, it is perhaps not surprise that they have struggled to win consistently, although they are coming into this one having won back to back games in the series. Both were tight 3-2 wins, though, so little margin for error. The A’s will start Frankie Montas, who is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA this season.
Why bet on the Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners are a team very much in the midst of a rebuild, so very little was expected of them heading into this season. They have not been entirely terrible and are just a game and a half out of the lead with a 4-6 record. This is a team that is absolutely bleeding runs, though, as they have already given up 60 through those opening 10 games. In fairness, the Mariners had 7 games on the road to start the season, and while they are now 1-2 at home after dropping 2 of 3 to the A’s, they are probably better off than most of us expected them to be. They will have Justus Sheffield (0-1, 12.00 ERA) on the mound for this one.
Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
While there are some legitimate offensive concerns for the A’s right now, I think we might see them break out a little with a win on Monday night.
